Women have faced sexism and patriarchal oppression in the workplace for decades, thus very few women hold leadership or prominent positions in organizations.  It is especially difficult for women in organizations that are heavily male dominated, yet some women have broken through the glass ceiling and have transcended prevalent sexism.  There is research that looks at why women leave these professions, but there is very little that look at why women stay.  The purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore how women sports commentators have navigated and overcome a male dominated profession to achieve high profile, pivotal roles despite oppression and sexism.
